Right vs. Left, Part I: sources

Left Wing:

Your sources are biased/corrupt by definition, because they disagree with what I want to believe. I will conceal this reasoning behind arguments by authority and popularity.

Right Wing:

Your sources are irrelevant, because I’m Right. I will conceal this reasoning behind arguments by authority and attacks on your character and motivations.

This has been an examination of how right and left wing partisans view the sources you cite when you disagree with them.

  1. Those aren’t real right and left wingers you’re basing your generalization on. I’ve been in politics for 30 years, I know what I’m talking about and everyone agrees with me. Only an anarchist baby-killer would say such things.

  2. Well, you’ve got me there.

  3. Forgive me for uncertainty, but is Mina being facetious?

If not, while I haven’t been in politics near as long, as I’ve come across a great deal of people to whom that generalization can and does apply.

If so, a thousand pardons I beg of you.

  4. Yes, Mina’s being facetious. I did a double-take at first, but realized that, it being Mina, it was obviously not meant seriously.

  5. Nah, it’s not serious. I just thought it might be funny to combine both approaches into one. You might even call it transcending the party system; let no political orientation stop us from using the range of fallacies available to us.

  6. Ah, sorry Mina. I’ll have to go check out your blog some just to get a better idea when you’re being insincere. I have a hard time in person, too, at being able to tell when someone is being facetious.

  7. Hey, Mina . . . do you have a weblog (or other website) somewhere? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one linked in your name when you post here, but hope springs eternal, and all that.

  8. Well, you seem to have found it. I did link it a few times in my name when I had hopes of updating it regularly, but since then I’ve lost the motivation to write (again), and since then I’ve decided to move it off LiveJournal anyway, so till I get my own site up and running I won’t be updating much anyway.

  9. Thanks for the additional information.

My SigO pointed it out to me. I seem to have failed to notice on the occasions when you’ve linked, even though I’ve periodically checked to see if a URL has appeared. Bad timing on my part, I guess.

Let me know when you get something going, please.
