epigram: copyright vs. immortality

The likelihood that an idea will endure is inversely proportional to the lifespan of its copyright.

In other words: Ideas that are committed into the domain of the public upon inception are more likely to survive into posterity than those whose archiving, distribution, and freedom to pass from one mind to the next are restricted by monopoly power.
